On Sunday April 23rd we will be celebrating Sant Jordi (Saint George’s Day), the festivity of the book and the rose in Catalonia.
And what better way to end the week than to dedicate this article to the magic that the day dedicated to the patron saint of Catalonia awakens amongst readers. That’s why it gives us pleasure to recommend some new publications so that you can enjoy the Day alongside Picasso.

In terms of books to read for adults and in relation to the major exhibition of the season, «Picasso. Portraits», we invite you to find out more about the wide range of relations the artist had with muses, friends and family. For this reason, we recommend the catalogue of the exhibition, with which, as explained by the curator Elizabeth Cowling, you will discover the importance that Picasso gave to his models, how he used certain styles according to the way in which he perceived their personalities and how he strove to shape an idea as completely as possible.

For the readers who want to get to know some of the characters of the exhibition in greater detail, we can find various new publications such as the illustrated biography of the photographer, painter and companion of the artist, Dora Maar: Paris in the Time of Man Ray, Jean Cocteau, and Picasso, by Louise Baring, published in French and English.
Furthermore, the catalogue of the Musée Picasso of Paris about the exhibition Olga Picasso: Album de l’exposition. Paris, Musée Picasso, du 21 mars au 3 septembre 2017; a catalogue that counts on a selection of fifty works and a chronology that allows us to know the fate of the ballet dancer and first wife of Picasso Olga Khokhlova.
For lovers of illustration, we highlight the book by Tyto Alba La Vida. Una historia de Carles Casagemas y Pablo Picasso (The Life. A history of Carles Casagemas and Pablo Picasso). A graphic novel that unravels the friendship between the two artists, until the suicide of Casagemas, that initiated the blue period of Picasso.

And we shouldn’t forget the smallest ones of the house, and for them we recommend the illustrated book Meet the artist: Pablo Picasso by the author Patricia Geis, recognised by the Ministry of Education and Culture as the best children’s book published in 2014. With this gift of Sant Jordi the children will get to know Picasso and his artistic trajectory in a fun and creative way.
