Attracting donors and collectors: the case of the Portland Museum of Art

We recently welcomed Mark Bessire, director of the Portland Museum of Art, to speak in the seminar on collecting and sponsorship organized by the museum and the Fundación Godia. We felt that his experience in fund raising, although belonging to a very different cultural and economic environment, was not only enlightening but it also provided us with helpful tips as to how to understand the relationship between donors and institutions, so we asked him to let us publish it in our blog. The Museums are going Mobile / 2. Notes from #mw2011

Just as Social Media were the key theme of the 2010 conference, at Museums and the Web 2011 the main topic was Mobile. A lot of sessions, workshops and debates were devoted to it and it was present in many of the stands and conversations. We even had a Mobile Parade! Here we will focus on the Mobile Strategies in Museums workshop run by Nancy Proctor, Head of Mobile Strategy & Initiatives at the Smithsonian Institution, and some of the tips from the Crit Mobile Room.
