The exhibition of the Vollard Gallery of 1901 was a turning point in the career of Pablo Picasso. It was at that time that Paris discovered his talent through the positive reviews that appeared in the press of the time, some of which augured a great future, even though he was still only 19 years old.
As you know, since 21st September and until 20th January we have open in the Museum the exhibition «Picasso discovers Paris», in which, with the collaboration Musée d’Orsay and the Musée national Picasso-Paris we have shaped the context that the artist found on his first trips to the French capital. On occasion of the presentation, this September, of a selection of works from the Musée d’Orsay within the context of our permanent collection, which we have given the title of “Picasso discovers Paris”, we want to enlarge our gallery of inhabitants of the museum with a biographical profile of the singer, actress and composer Yvette Guilbert. Star of the chanson from the end of the 19th century, Guilbert is most likely the protagonist of two of the paintings that Picasso did on his first trips to the French capital: «The End of the Number» and «The Fortuneteller».
On 21st September we will officially open to the public “Picasso discovers Paris” in the Museu Picasso of Barcelona. This is an exhibition that aims to transmit the impact that the French capital caused on the artist the first two times he traveled there, and which has been possible thanks to an exchange of works with the Museé d’Orsay and the Museé National Picasso-París. 2018 will be marked by the four temporary exhibitions that we will be organising at the Museu Picasso of Barcelona: «Picasso kitchen», «Picasso discovers Paris», «Pablo Picasso and the publishers Gustavo Gili» and «Sabartés by Picasso by Sabartés». This was announced by the director of the Museum, Emmanuel Guigon, in the press conference that we held with the media on 31st January. Four proposals that cover different periods and aspects of the artist from Malaga, and which will serve to complement our permanent collection.
