On Saturday March 9th the Museu Picasso celebrated the 50th anniversary of its inauguration. Quite a milestone, particularly if we take into account the Barcelona of 1963 and the political environment of the time.
On February 28th the Museu Picasso organised a seminar entitled The pastel technique: specificities of its conservation and restoration.
We are starting 2013 very much on the right foot and with good perspectives for the future of the museum. Nevertheless, we don’t want to forget everything we did in 2012, so you can find here a small selection of images of some of the projects we carried out in the museum last year:
In 2012 we started a new period in the hands of the director Bernardo Laniado-Romero, focusing especially on a revision of the Collection of the museum, as well as giving emphasis to education and accessibility from all the fields.

No plans for the holidays? If this Christmas you are in Barcelona we propose activities for all the family that you can do either if you come to the museum or if you stay at home:
· Visit the exhibition “Picasso ceramics. Jacqueline’s gift to Barcelona”: an exhibition organized on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the donation by Jacqueline Picasso of 41 ceramic pieces produced by the artist.
On the 21st, 22nd and 23rd November, part of the Educational Team of the museum attended the 2nd International Congress: Museums in Education. From the outset, it seemed to us to be an interesting topic, around which the contents were based: “From action to reflection”.
A new activity began in the Museum on 15th October, a six-month long memory workshop for the elderly with the aim of getting the elderly people of the neighbourhood closer to the work and life of Picasso.
Two years ago, the museum proposed to children and adults a new way of enjoying and looking at the works of the Collection through the tales and the stories that Patricia McGill and Ignasi Potrony, two storytellers with a long trajectory, constructed in the rooms with their imagination and that of all the participants.
Will you be spending your summer holidays in Barcelona? Both if you are from the city or from outside, we propose a number of activities so that you can spend a cool time away from the heat:
With Bernardo Laniado-Romero at the front, a new period starts for the museum, with a lot of enthusiasm both from the new director and from the team of the museum. In his presentation of the new 2012-2013 season, he outlined the following lines of action:
Within the project entitled Pi, pica, picas(so), and for the second year in a row, the Museu Picasso opened its doors one Spring Monday for the boys and girls from the nursery schools of the neighbourhood to offer them a live music concert given by the group Tres & Jazz. The musical proposal was inspired by a selection of five paintings, a piece of pottery by Picasso and some photographs that the children had the chance to look at and observe in detail during the school course.
